Introduction
Letās go on an adventure! Grab your boats and sail through Hawaiki. These islands are waiting for your settlements, and you can become the most well-known person in Polynesia. Honor the sea goddess and make your people proud in this great-looking, happy board game!
Let’s get in on the table
In Hawaiki Islands, players will need to gather as much VP as possible to become the proudest tribe of the Polynesians.
By placing the main board in the middle of the table, depending on the player count, each side is laid out with different islands. Some have Moai statues, forests, and/or volcanoes.
Each player will choose a color and receive their player components. To be honest, what a very nice material is used for these components! Very nicely done and lifts this game to a certain level.
Shuffle the resource cards, deal 4 to each player, and also place a total of 4 cards face up in the market zone on the main board. Place the totem in the action spot with the image of 5 cards.
Shuffle the goddess cards and deal 2 of them to each player. Place your ship on 0 of the score track and the sea goddess on one of its shadows.
And let the wind hit the seals when the game ends as soon as one of two situations occurs:
1. A player places their last cabin.
2. Depending on the player count, a certain number of islands are fully inhabited.
Starting with how to get those cabins out on the islands, players need to gather resources. These resources will be collected by using the marketplace. The marketplace has four zones, which will be activated by moving the totem. Each player will choose a different zone than where the totem is located. When moving the totem, the player will get the resource thatās in that zone and the related action, which are:
– Look at three cards, pick one, and discard the rest
– Discard one resource from your hand and draw two from the deck
– Take one resource face up from one of the other zones
– Draw cards from the deck until you reach a hand limit of five cards
After all actions are completed, the market can be refreshed.
So, when a player has all the needed resources to build a cabin, the first cabin can be placed anywhere on the board, but your next cabin needs to be on the same island or one that is connected. By placing the cabin, youāll earn VP, and extra points if the island is blessed by the Sea Goddess.
When a player is able to make an offer to the Sea Goddess, they can fulfill the related card and move the Sea Goddess to another shadow. This way, players can also get new offering cards, proceed with offering, and earn extra VP.
As indicated earlier, when the last cabin is placed by a player or a certain number of islands are fully occupied, end scoring will take place. The player with the most VP can call themselves the king or queen of the ocean, well, this part of the ocean š.
Although we got that very lovely Moana vibe, itās a great game to play with the family.
Easygoing and very colorful, which makes it very fun to play.
