Destinies

Summary

A game for 1 – 3 players
Playing time is 90 to 150 minutes
Publisher is Lucky Duck Games

Introduction

Are you ready to dive into a dark medieval-fantasy universe?

Each scenario depicts a part of a vivid world, full of dark stories and mysteries to solve. You will take on the role of a hero on a quest to fulfill their destiny. Each destiny is the final goal of the character and has at least two completely different paths to victory, composed of branching series of quests. Players do compete with each other to push the world towards their own destiny.

The game uses an app and the Scan&Play technology to offer a unique story-driven game world. Make crucial choices of how your character wants to interact with people, creatures, or situations faced there. The consequences of each choice are meaningful and often change the state of the world forever.

So get yourself together for this adventure.

Setting up the game

Start by downloading the app, which is needed to play Destinies.

Then select the scenario you would like to play.

Regarding the player count, follow the instructions and prepare as indicated in the app.

Each player now gets:
Character card and miniature
Player board
2 Main dice
3 Effort dice
1 Coin

Let’s play

As soon as everything is ready, we can start playing.
The starting player begins plays a card (so in some cases directly from his hand) and places it on the discard pile. After this, the timers shown on the card are turned over. If it is on its side, it is placed upright.

After this, this player’s turn ends and it is the next player’s turn.

As soon as the timer on the countdown track is empty or nearly empty and you play a card with the color of the timer, you may move the timer one step to the next step (one number down). After this, your turn ends as soon as you draw a card.

As soon as one of the other timers runs out and you have not turned it over in time then you turn over one of the Crowd tokens, with the purple backing. If 3 tokens have been turned over then every visitor has left your show and you have lost the game.

Conclusion & final score

Difficulty: 1.92/ 5
Re-playability: 8
Our score: 7 out of 10 dice

When setting up the game, my first impression was that good and nice materials were used. The insert is also already part of the game.

Good quality materials were used for the tiles, tokens, and minis.

After searching for the correct minis for the scenarios, it became a bit less interesting. The details are not that great, so it would have helped a lot to give them a number under each mini stand.

After this small hiccup, the game itself plays easily, and the app provides the guidance players need nicely. Each scenario gives players a greater sense of what this Destinies World stands for. It is well created and can trigger a player to proceed from scenario to scenario.

For us, it’s not a trigger to proceed after the first two scenarios. Personally, I’m not very fond of games driven by apps. This gives me less bonding because you always need a device to play. This is my flaw, and I can really understand that these types of games have a wide range of gamers who will love the beautiful world that is created.
